I need to culture a male Drosophila cell line that is easy to culture, propagates at a great rate, and it is relatively easy to transfect. I'm also looking for a constitutive expression vector system for making stable lines with the above line. Would "S2" or "clone 8" lines be good candidates?

The Schneider S2 cell line is a female Drosophila cell line as shown from the following Cellosaurus entry:

If by "Clone 8" you mean CME W1 cl.8+, it is not known whether this cell line:

or its parent lone CME W1 are male or female.
It seem that the only known male Drosophila cell line that is distributed is the Schneider S1 line:

Shows that I was wrong to say that S2 line is female, it is male. And the table 1 of that paper list many other male cell lines among the 41 they analyzed.
