Yes, racism is everywhere, in my country with my own people; example of linguistic racism, I am Punjabi (mother tongue) and once I was sitting in computer lab of my University, the other students, who were sitting there, were all having language other than Punjabi, were discussing Punjabi in disgusting way, then, again I overheard one of my faculty members making fun of Punjabis and our language; it is not sad story, it made me courageous to stand alone in almost hostile environment. The solution, I found for this, whenever, I got the chance, I spoke in Punjabi(bano sada Sher aye, baqi hair pher aye, all punjabi around the world will understand, what I have written). Moreover, those all people who discussed Punjabi in ill mannered...liked Punjabi food, music very much......in essence, racism is serious and sometimes funny, by training our kids to respect the diversity and being role models for them,..
Ethnic identity and its protection is encouraged by global agencies hence equal opportunities to all and ethnic diversity may be betterment for stable system.
In my opinion, the problem of racism cannot be detached from the problem of nationalism. Racism this is nationalism based on external signs.
Now, in my opinion, carefully cultivated political correctness leads to completely unacceptable consequences - someone has to pay for everything that happened in history.
And very often this leads to the requirement of privileges for some groups.
Very funny, when I worked in the USA, for some I got into the “Whites” group, and for others - the “Russians” group, for third - in "Christians", so I had to feel my guilt ... for everybody. I did not divide some countries, did not exploit slaves, did not send troops, but nevertheless I must feel guilty for that. No! I do not guilty against anyone! And against me, no national or racial group is to blame. And no one will make me feel guilty for historical events, or vice versa, I will not demand "satisfaction" for the actions of somebody ancestors. For me, people are divided into good (honest, productive, friendly, peaceful etc.), bad (deceitful, lazy, cunning, agressive etc.), and "others" (majority: "not both fish nor meat", as sayng in my country), but not on the basis of belonging to any national, racial or other group. That I wish to everybody.
The problem of racism is still a serious problem that must be overcome at any cost through the teaching of Mahatma Gandhi of non-violence. The school is the first place to counteract and combat racism. Unfortunately, in recent years in many countries traditionally immune to the scourge of racism there is some racism regurgitation due to the world economic crisis, the many wars, terrorism and the consequent great migration from the poorest countries to the richest countries. Therefore, it is necessary to welcome migrants to integrate them into society in the sign of the fight against racism and against terrorism according to the Gandhian method. Personally I do not believe in nationalism, which is a concept out of date. In fact, with the economic and cultural globalization, the nations no longer exist. There are the States. The world consists of States and no longer of nations. Furthermore, I believe that the whole world is inhabited by one people. The people of humans. Schools all over the world have the task of educating people to eradicate racism and nationalism.
There is still an overwhelming majority of long-established white male/female professors but there are increasing numbers of minorities who are continuing their education to earn doctorates. Also, many US universities have implemented a diversity in hiring policy to envelope doctoral graduates of color, race, sexual identity, etc. For now: https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=61

Thank you all for your kind contributions here. My analysis is racism is in everywhere, in every country and every society, whether it is in social work, education and religion! I get the pain when it is seen in the education. Education is the process to enlighten the society & humanity , if the candle is suppressed under the darkness who will show us the way. There from are many scholars with us from around the world. I get hurt when I see for the general education the name of the institutions like: Muslim School, Hindu College, Christian College ... Like this !! How these organizations will enlighten the society from the narrow space ! I don't know.
Wrongly presentation of religion study, social structure for the capitalism and rising of the elite class in the society are the causes of racism with may other factors.
In fact I was waiting for enough to give feedback of your very heart-touching and painful experiences:
This really painful. In the professional environment local language is not ethically allowed any where in the world. What the matter the local people did was not totally appropriate .
In India Racism is there in the school as well as collegiate education system. Governments speak of eradicating racism, but they are not taking any steps in doing so. For example in India, while filling the application form they ask us to fill the community and caste, religion which is a clear evidence of racism.
I want to add something else. I am not forgiving the past mistakes in the US but I also want to say that it is important for those with new opportunities to take them. As a minority, you have an increased chance of college acceptance even if you do not meet stated standards. Also, your education is likely to be free. So, if there is a lack of educators with advanced degrees, it may be necessary to review if this policy is actually giving them the skills to advance to reach the academic standards of an advanced educator. There are more funds for students who are underachievers than their are strong students who may need a bit of help or financing. I think this is also a reverse type of discrimination for those who have the aptitude for advanced education but do not qualify free education because their parents make a little more money but maybe not enough to justify tens of thousands of dollars for educating one or more children in their family. This should also be considered in the general category of racism where opportunity exists but it is not fully realized.
I think racism is a cultural issue rather a political and economical. In case of religion in Hinduism there is the system of class or caste by which the position of a child is fixed though there is little relaxed today by the grace of education. Capitalist society has created strata where religion, state power have accorded of the society a wide gap between man. From my observation where socialism had incepted by the leaders from then the USSR, China and other countries of the world were still a new pack to empower the leaders only , not for humanity.

Even from the University of Oxford !!!!
In some case in the world around there are something fixed. God Didn't made the class but we. I get surprise when about the famous university is for the campaign of the development of humanity from almost its leading position favors the racism.
'A senior lecturer in my department – a white, working-class woman – was telling me about her daughter who was applying to Ucas a few years ago. When she suggested Oxbridge, her daughter replied, “It’s not for the likes of us, Mum.” Her mother was sad and disheartened that even as a university academic, her child didn’t feel that her family had accrued sufficient “cultural capital” to enter elite universities such as Oxford.
I recalled this the other week..........................................
In 21st century, we must teach and train our children, that they have to face the racism everywhere, so, be prepared and don't get it to heart; live the life with peace in their heart, and never exercise racism towards others.....as it is being so lowlife with low cognitive abilities.....!
Yes, I have faced it during my Degree's study. Indeed, it is a very bad way to be honest because it is not the ground to practice some bad habits in the education sector. I think there is a need to respect each other as educated society and try to show the world a great example about us.
I would love to see the admission algorithm used to narrow applicants at various universities even before a human sets eyes on the physical application. I think that this would enlighten many people as to how the process of college entry is actually performed and how it may be improved.
I have not found any such things in educational system. I have completed almost 2 terms as Dean of larger university - Gujarat Technological University, racism or class distinction has not been seen observed ever
Sir, That is very good to know that you have kept the university out of racism where society even the state is full with the norms of the classifications.
We should only recall our mind we are man only man, nothing more.
Few days back there was a news headline : Sweeper's son is adorned with PhD !!
Is it a matter of surprise ! Why it not be? It is very simple case. I think its a simply mockery the hard-earning education of the neglected quarter. I salute the sweeper and his son.
Its good to know if its is really. We think a university should be free of inclined to religious pressure, racism and other majority and minority complex. education should be for all.
Yes there are discrimination and hidden racism not only in academic concerning foreigner students but also in the society in Denmark. Before it was Jews under attack and now people coming from countries with the dominant religion of Islam. Here they divide people based on their religion!!! But at the same time all the time talking about democracy and civil society and citizens!. But how do you take the religion as the nationality of a person!!! This is not democracy but a paradox of democracy! This is one thing!
In the academic, there is a discrimination concerning what you are working on. How many fields medals are given to those working on science fiction theory called string theory or the mathematics related to it? Is there any mathematician getting fields in general topology, or topological groups? All this influence the research in the academic. It means the media and those people with power and influence seating on the money promote one field against the other fields.
Racism can be found in all countries. But if governments are serious in treating all people equally, they can put an end to racism by passing laws that forbid people from practicing racism.
To say that their is no form of discrimination in a country because of religious beliefs I think is what psychology likes to refer to as the 'state of denial'. Even within various religious beliefs it matters if you are Shite, Sunni, etc. and the ruling faction reserves the best employment for the ones who are the same. This is discrimination. There is also discrimination against individuals who are not 'born' into a family of those who are Muslim. For example, there is much hatred in the extreme and at minimum discrimination for Africans who have converted to the Muslim faith even though that same faith professes to be without any form of racism, discrimination, or separation. I think this must be put forth in truth because only with the recognition of truth can there be a resolution. Darfur is one example but it is not an isolated incident as just these few examples demonstrate.
In my opinion, extremely negative behaviours - such as racism - could be derived from humans' un-rationale nature. Namely, unsatisfied people (persons that are unhappy, unsuccessful, useless etc.) are searching for someone who could be blamed for their ''bad state''. And - that is subconscious - it's much easier to blame everyone who is ''different''. In the very beginning - we are searching for ''big'' differences (such as skin colour, other nationality...), but in progress - we (unsatisfied persons) start to ''blame'' (and to hate) those persons that are different by gender, that live on the other part of town, on the other side of street...our family members. Everyone - except us - the real culprit of this bad state.
In that sense, this is much more psychological issue than political. It's important to teach people how to improve their life satisfaction, how to find and make happiness, how to achieve their personal and professional goals etc. Education is the key.
And - I really think that racism is so stupid. Why? There isn't any reasonable factor to justify it.
For low society people it is impossible to succeed in science, if they don't become member of a tribute, ''marginalized groups'' or get а trophy spouse.
Yes there is in Serbia. For example, people from Montenegro or Montenegro origin are privileged in Serbia in every field.
I think that wherever there is privilege, people seek to protect that privilege. Where there is a privileged class in society (whether based on wealth, religious belief or other factors) it is often seen that they seek to protect that privilege by means of 'divide and rule' tactics. Here, superficial differences are exploited to suggest real ones. So, for instance, rich white people induce poor white people to see darker skinned people, or people of a different faith, as responsible for their poverty and not those people who are keeping all the wealth to themselves. These distinctions then pervade every sector of society, whether people are aware of them or not, including education.
