The test 'lipid profile' is being prescribed by physicians and also performed by researchers concerning dyslipidemia. Mostly, they are measuring the total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C and LDL-cholesterol only. The parameter 'total lipid' is not being measured with the lipid profile test. I also observed in the published research articles that a total lipid was not included by many of the researchers. Is there any rational explanation for not including total lipid with the usual lipid profile tests?
