The mtDNA genome seems to be an extremely exclusive system. While mitochondria continually cross-talk with the "outsiders", their own genome become more and more simplified in mammals and birds. How could it be? Since there are always some micronucleus outside the mitochondria. How the mitochondrial system works to eliminate the potential invaders?
