Vaccines that employ attenuated virus may cause mild symptoms while those that employ adenovirus vector encoding the virus glycoprotein may cause more severe symptoms. Is it vaccine-related? gender-related? age-related?
Possible Answers: All the Covid-19 vaccines currently being used underwent very little testing for "side effects". Having worked in the vaccine field this usually takes 2-3 years to come up with the best formulation that minimizes side effects and maximizes immune response. I know the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are lipid nanoparticles. I am not sure how these act in the body. I believe that both vaccines have a novel adjuvant. Novel for humans that is, but still very little data on how people might react. The adenovirus vector vaccines also have adjuvants, and a complete, but crippled Adenovirus. Not sure how people who might already have immunity to the vector virus might react. I can see possible reactions from minimal to strong. Sorry I don't have any real data. Unfortunately we will have to wait for the companies to publish to really find out.
James Drummond Thank you for your answer. Since you have worked in the vaccine field, can you explain why younger people may react more severely? is it because their immune system is stronger?
It is possible that younger people have a "stronger" immune system. I have not really heard that younger people react more strongly. One needs to be careful how data like this are collected and presented.
