In the course of preparing a journal/book publication based on my original research, I prepare a set of drawings using commercial software designed for scientific applications. Am I the copyright holder when I present the work for publication? I understand that most journals will want to have a transfer of copyright from author to journal. But do I need to contact the software company whose program I used to get their permission first?
