In my areas of interests, many members within RG have sent me their papers to correct / review, this was done by them with the good intend. Whenever time permits, i take such cases and value add and send them, I do not ask them to put my name as author (or co-author). I have even politely refused to accepts such offers. The simple reason is, my conscience does not permit me to own or co-own some other's effort.  I feel within me a sense of satisfaction, more than my article gets published, when I do such value adds to others.

Dear @Kuldeep, an author of submitted paper is responsible for everything regarding paper and research results.  Authorship is not the subject of checking by Journal! Editors and peer reviewers have other responsibilities. Author's institution should have some role in justification process, if needed!

Dear Ljubomir, thanks but answer is not complete. I am not asking justification process of Institute but actually who can be author of a paper based on his varied contributions. Kindly just see my question again.   

The author(s) should be the person(s) who were conducted research and got the research results. Thus, the authors of research which results are presented in the paper. If you are not satisfied with this answer, then I did not get the point of your question.

Many journals do have indication in the author guideline on who should be coauthors.. You just have to check some of them and you will have a good idea on how this works.

A person or a group of persons who conducted the research can be the author(s) of the paper concerned. The person who did the work and wrote the paper is generally listed as the first author of a research paper.  Other people who made substantial contributions to the work are also listed as co-authors.

Dear Ljubomir, kindly opine about that if anyone approaches an experienced researcher to help in his / her research / review paper - and that person being approached makes significant contribution with respect to critical analysis, overall improvement in terms of updations, necessary modifications, editing and presentation - then can he be the co-author -- if the help seeking asking researcher(s) agrees for his / her authorship...............Hope you got it now...  

The person who had carried out the research or a part of research which is being published, is the author, all others are gifted authors either organizationaly forced/ culturally accepted there within, when there's no real value addition by them. Editing, proof reading etc., does not position themselves as authors

Dear Krishnan and colleagues, Simple editing and proof reading is done by journal editors / main authors -- In my opinion when asked / requested by main authors -- Scientists / Researchers sharing their knowledge, valuable inputs and making good updations along with significant contribution by helping in finalizing with efficient writing & editing skills with critical analysis, overall improvement, necessary reviewing / modifications which altogether brings a paper in a very good presentation / final shape and leads to acceptance of a manuscript in a journal can be co-author when main authors need this work and on request of authors it is followed by any researcher of same / related discipline, since in my experience authors may be many but only few participate in reality towards significant research as well as drafting its manuscript - hence any contributor making significant moves sincerely towards success of research in terms of acceptance / publication in a good journal need to be given due credit.    

In my opinion an author is a person who has intellectual contribution n the paper. Though a researcher who has contributed a lot and made a publishable document (means, more than 50% changes), should be offered a co-authorship (if they have worked on non monitory basis).

Dear @ Krishnan, Doing hard works with high valuable inputs and making sincere efforts and positive response with time giving for any request that too getting the manuscript published in an Impact Factor journal counts much, reviewing and editing we do perform as reviewers for many journals..I am not discussing here a routine reviewing / editing or publishing in routine journals but wish to have opinions about expertise and valuable inputs being passed which lifts a paper to extremes for its acceptance in a rated / IF journal. There are many other ways to help in routine to all and others and feel happiness. Due to lack of expertise many research  papers of mine in earlier days I could publish in Non-IF journals, but now with team efforts and experience I am able to publish in good journal. Experience and guidance counts and routinely it can't be shared with 1000s for sake of helping others otherwise one will be over-burdened. In my opinion science must be beyond boundaries and if and at times when your expertise makes a paper be successfully published with all your sincere efforts and overall inputs (not merely english editing / simple reviewing) and requesting authors ask / request you it be its co-author -- then seeming and based on one's significant contributions one can accept authorship (not a demanding one- but based on significant contribution) --- I am not talking here of RG collaborations but a general principle of science and research.

Scientific paper writing is really time consuming and one need very good experience to lift the paper to good impact journals. Lot of very good research papers are published in good journals because lack of paper writing and presenting skill. 

Long lists are eroding the value of being a scientific author! "...The trend of increasingly long author lists on research papers is clearly getting out of hand. Dear Ljubomir, thanks, there are various opinions worldwide with regards to authorship, if indeed then first of all ceremonial authors need to be avoided -- but not all and many of us can follow this to full execution due to various reasons and influences, then why any sincere contributor as narrated above cannot be an author of any paper - when contributions such is highly significant and from relevant / same field researcher. 

Authorship issues from disbanded consortium

A manuscript was submitted which included 15 authors as part of a consortium which had since been disbanded. The manuscript was provisionally accepted for publication. At this point, three of the authors requested to be removed from the author list, citing irreconcilable differences with the corresponding author. One of them also noted that three junior members of his research group also qualified for authorship but had never been included in the author list. The manuscript's publication was put on hold...

Dear Prof. Ljubomir and others, Conflict of interest need to be avoided, and authors list need to be working hands, main author(s) must take full responsibility in deciding author's list. In my opinion a team spirit always pave ways of high success and international collaboration of experts adds value to the manuscript and increases chances of acceptance, attract more citations and appreciations.
