So i want to do a 4 weeks study in which I want to investigate a change in gene expression as caused by intake of a substance. I am planning to do this on humans and by substance i mean nutrients, hormones, drugs, chemicals etc. So since this is a short study and it's on humans, i am looking for a substance that is harmless when taken in continually for a week and that is known to bring about an observable change in the expression pattern of one or more known genes of the human genome within a week (so that i have enough time to isolate the mRNA and actually quantify the change in gene expression). I obviously am aware that a rapid change in expression of a certain gene may inherently cause harm to the human body. Hence i am not looking for a substance that causes a huge change in gene expression. All it matters to me is that there is a change and that it is observable within my limited timeframe.

I have read an article (http://www.ntnu.edu/news/feed-your-genes) in which the authors say that "It took just six days to change the gene expression of each of the volunteers". This made me think that changing the gene expression within my chosen timeframe is indeed possible. It all depends on the substance. Can you help me out?
