In our Mathematical (String Theoretic) Econophysical research that we dare say we have started, we have found that all Electronic Econophysical Cybernetic actions are Quantum Mechanically propelled over spacextime of material fields by AGGNNNetworks and Hi9ggs-Mallick mechanics, the networks being differential strings on Lie Algebras which are formed by the crystallisation you may say of the Millenium Prize solutions in String Matching Dbranes Fields with photonic and phononic particles having Quantum Mathematical string classification and string condensation by our discovered Laws of RHMHM School Functor Algebra Calculus which results in the Higgs-Mallick "Vector Diffeotopy of Embedding Jump Quantum Conductance" (VDEJQC - HiggsMallick Mechanics with cyber photon-phonon wave mechanics isotropic to AGN with phononic string theory String Matching Field particles capable of reaching infinite velocity as embedded waves because of the proven "electronic" Systems Equilibrium Newton-Leibnitz FAC integral M-Theory in low dimensional spacetime Fields with heart-mind transversal convergence of String Econophysical forces in spacextime. This is the Fundamental Standard Model we have discovered (Mallick, Hamburger & Mallick (2016, 2017, 2018), Mallick, Raychaudhury, Mallick, Hamburger, Sullivan, Vrtilek, Kantharia, Krichel & Novarese (2018, 2019), Mallick (1993, 2014, 2015)) using Indian Globalized Electronic Internetworked Geosyncronous Stock Exchanges Bombay Stock Market experiments over ten years and integrating with AGN Research of Sullivan, Kolokythos, Raychaudhury et. al. (2012) paper. To cut a long story short we find that AGGNNNetwork Strings are present in all Business Data internetworked in cybernetic space as described above and hence we can say experimentally that quantum mechanically there is hierarchial structure in all our Market Institutions. Pyramids and Matrix Meshes are topological variants.

Soumitra K Mallick, apologies I didn’t fully understand your answer . You can dm me if you would like to explain. I am trying to understand from different peoples perspective the real world advantages and disadvantages of pyramid and matrix organisation structures. How do people find decision making in both, in terms of time taken to resolve issues. communication in both. I feel in matrix it’s sometimes difficult to resolve cross functional issues because if the two functional managers disagree there is a stale mate. There’s no hierarchical leader to make the call.
With its ranks of managers, the pyramid structure allows companies to exert control. Grouping employees by function promotes efficiency and saves money, since specialized resources can be shared. The pyramid structure also encourages functional expertise. Since the matrix is half functional, it shares some of these advantages, but has the added advantage of flexibility. Employees permanently answer to a functional department head, but can be deployed to divisional projects as needed. As employees from different departments come together to tackle these projects, interdepartmental communication and coordination improve...
My point is that with information being the resource which is being optimised in all communication channels the evolution of the structure of communication and thereby of the organisation is a matter which has to be observed over time to identify its form. So if you start of with matrix over time it might develop into a pyramid structure or if you start with pyramid still you can evolve into a matrix structure over time by our developed systems classification and systems integration theorems of String Econophysics(Mallick (2012, 2014, 2015, 2018), Mallick, Hamburger & Mallick (2016, 2017, 2018)). So organisation Development & Change are endogenous cultural processes which depend on the environment and on corporate policies like the degree of labour force participation in decision making, the nature of managerial compensation etc..

I understand what you mean and agree. Although, what I have found is that in an SME - Small to Medium Enterprises where the management structure is small you tend to find a pyramid structure with decisions being made from the top down. Where as, in a large multi national company they tend to have a matrix style structure. In this structure there are sub teams and within these sub teams I can see how the structure can change from a matrix to a pyramid. Although from my experience as soon as those department join together and a cross functional decision is required there can be difficulties in coming to agreement because there is no hierarchical manager above to make the final decision. That seems to be one of the key issues with the matrix structure as opposed to pyramid were a decision will definitely be made.
This may not sound like an answer at first, but bear with me. I cannot answer the question unless I first understand the associated relationship between myself and those in the pyramid/matrix. Let me explain. As an editor, I have peers who work with me on projects. But the reality is that they report to me and I have a task to perform so that I can take it to the next level. At first glance, this may seem like a pyramid or hierarchical reporting methods but in reality, it is more of a matrix because of the level of professionalism that my contributing authors exhibit. Thus, I think that your task in the structure (pyramid or matrix) determines what formation you are working within, not necessarily a straightforward or same structure for all even within the same organizations.
Being a supervisor by myself, I absolutely do prefer the pyramid structure. It might be bureaucratic or sometimes slow, yet it is clear a good for decision making. In the situation of a crisis it is the most suitable one. From the point of view of a subordinate it gives you confidence.
there is no best organizational structure for all organization. you have to select based on size, product or process type, current situation, etc of your organization.
Seleshi Tilahun agreed, I'm looking for opinions of people working in the different structures, what worked well, what didn't, advantages and disadvantages of both.
Large scale organizations work well in Pyramid where the chain of command is well-defined. Small and Medium scale businesses can do well in a matrix structure only if employees have the required skill-set to make decisions on their own.
I've thought a little bit more about your question. The more important question here is, from whom point of view. Superior or subordinate? My answer was more from point of view of a superior, but I guess as a subordinate (to the chief of the department or to dean) I would prefer the matrix structure.
