I love Google Drive the most for documentation purposes. Other than that, I used NCBI, MG-RAST, ExPASy, Research Gate, Primer 3 for research purposes.

For document sharing, within our research group we use Box (https://app.box.com/) and within our entire institute we use Google Drive. When working on documents with external collaborators, it mainly goes through mail but also Dropbox. For organizing articles, I use Papers and love it. It is possible to cite directly from Papers but it might become a problem when others not using Papers want to add references; I therefore use Endnote when working on papers with other co-authors. Other than that, ResearchGate and LinkedIn for social networking..

Hi I use Google Drive for documents and NCBI (GEO and SRA), Research Gate, PubMed, Mendeley for Papers and sometimes google scholar

Writing: Papers (my go to... but) End Note as the lab is used to that (it is a bit messier imo)

Sharing data: good old email or dropbox, depending on file size.

Gathering info depends a lot on what I am looking for and how much I already know- if I know little I often start with google and see where it takes me (often wikipedia), if I know more about whatever I am looking for I will use more specialised databases: 

*For articles - google/pubmed

*gene centred - NCBI gene, BioGPS, google

*flies - flybase.org

*discussions/hands on experience/protocols - google/ResearchGate

*staying in touch: email/ResearchGate/LinkedIN

*organising results etc: lab book and systematically numbering experiments and the associated folders on the computer... will give this a try: http://findingsapp.com

I would go for ResearchGate. However, some specific questions may be better adressed at sites where such topics are handled in detailed. You could even email authors. In my opinion, every researcher is very much willing to helpen. So even if your question is not directly answered at any of the above, you probably get direction to where you could go. If there is anything else I may be of assistance, please let me know.

My fault, I use evernote for note taking.

I use Google Drive for simple file share and GitHub for agile development. I always prefer command line Bioinformatics tools ( not a fun of the tools you have listed). To share my published work, I use Research Gate. To meet scientist working  in my domain and job search I use LinkedIn.

Hi Alain: For storage and collaborations, I use both Dropbox, Workspace, and Google drive. I use Evernote to record notes and keep important noted handy on mobile electronics.

My favorite bioinformatics tools are Set2networks, Genes2FANs, Genes2Networks, Network2canvas, GATE, X2K, FANMOD, VisANT, NCBI.

I use Google Drive to store papers in PDF format and to read on my tablet/ do full text searches on my collection (with over 2000 papers).

Two EU projects I participate in use Google Docs extensively to share project related documents.

I Google Scholar regularly to search for papers (it is better than pubmed generally because you get papers sorted by citations and full text search). I occasionally use Google Patents for same thing.

Some of my partners use Dropbox and I use it too to some extent to share data with collaborators.

I use Confluence to prepare EU grant applications with large groups of people.

I use Git to share code with collaborators (and we use DropBox to share large analysis related files that don't fit on Git). 

We communicate via Skype/GoTo Meeting.

Work-related social networking done via: LinkedIn, Facebook (ResearchGate minor)

Online data analysis: too many to mention, TCGA cBio portal, David, Webgestalt, IPA, Comaprative Toxicogenomics database, Toxygates

Hi Alain! I use dropbox and google drive for storage and sharing material; Researchgate and LinkedIn (although linkedin not very often) for communication; EndNote and Mendeley for bibliography managing research. Also skype for communication, and twitter from time to time but it is much more a personal use.
