It depends whether you are performing quantitative or qualitative data analyses. Quantitative data analysis software include: SPSS, AMOS, SmartPLS, LISREL, SAS etc. whereas qualitative data analysis software can be: NVivo, Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, Transana etc.

Qualitative data analysis software sometimes also called Computer Assisted Qualitative Data AnalysiS (CAQDAS) - as its name implies, CAQDAS is not as automated as Quantitative Data Analysis Software e.g. SPSS etc. i.e. you upload entire sample data / data set, select the data analysis technique you need & then the software will generate the relevant statistics for your interpretation. CAQDAS require qualitative researcher to guide how to use the CAQDAS to assist in analyzing data collected e.g. text transcribed using features like formatting, sorting, searching, coding etc.
