There are a few fairly recent papers that propose festivals can provide an opportunity space.
at the same time, you are probably not going to find high tech at a festival
Theatre festivals often provide showcases for companies and for practices outside of the "home" territory of the makers. Or, in the case of Fringe Theatre festivals, they are audience-focused direct connections between theatre makers and the public and have been known to create careers.
