Hi,

you have to use two differen blood collection techniques.

For serum preparation - tube with clotting activator. gel clotting activator is better if you are not able to separate serum before shipping.

For whole blood DNA extraction - tube with EDTA based gDNA stabilizer.

Thanks a lot for the answer. It means I have to prepare 2 different tubes (one with clotting activator and another one with EDTA).

Definitely, because DNA in blood sample is present in white blood cells and they are part of clot in blood collecting tube without EDTA.

Simple overview:

DNA or plasma - EDTA is needed - no clotting

Serum - nothing (the clotting is nature proces) or clotting activator (gel better because it will separate serum for the rest - no hemolysis in the serum and you do not have to separate it into the separate tube (eppendorf) before shipping).
