I am testing a SEM model and one of my endogenous variable is defined by two observed variables (GPA and ability). The problem is that the squared multiple correlation being returned on GPA is 3.98. Is this because I only have two observed variables defining my latent construct? Help>
Squared multiple correlation (R) is called the coefficient of determination which is defined as the proportion of the total variation explained by the model. If R squared is 3.98 then R is 2 which is impossible, R being a correlation. The computation cannot be correct and should be revisited.

The correlation coefficient value ranges from -1 to +1 as well as the value of the correlation coefficient square not exceeding 1
