I want to test the growth factors on primary murine hepatocytes. Which kind of recipe I should use to avoid the endogenous growth factors existing in the medium/FBS/Supplements?
e.g. This is the recipe from a paper. (But it doesn't contain FBS.etc....)
Williams E medium (Sigma), 1% (v/v) peni- cillin/streptomycin (10,000 U/µg/ml; Sigma), 0.5% (v/v) gentamycin (10 mg/ml; Gibco), 0.04% (v/v) fungizone (amphotericin B, 250 µg/ml; Gibco), 1% (v/v) 200 mM L-glutamine (Sigma), 1% (v/v) nonessential amino acids (Gibco).

hello, to test endogenous growth factor you must use medium without serum.
You could replace L-glutamine with stable glutamin which does not react to toxic NH4+ in cell culture medium. See the link for more information on the topic or look for GlutaMAX / stable glutamin / L-alanyl-l-glutamine on the net.
I could obtain a much more stable culture with higher cell yield.
