As a researcher, teacher and advisor, I realize that the times and days dedicated to rest are often not respected. The digital facility allows people to get in touch on the strangest days and times and acting as if this is absolutely normal.
I see this as professional digital clutter. Respect and consideration for people in their hours and rest days must be followed even in modern digital means of communication.
Tell us your opinion about this? Respecting rest days!

Thank you very much for this question, which frankly we suffer a lot from facing such cases and constantly... You put your hand on the wound, frankly, this situation existed before the pandemic, but to a much lesser extent than now... We suffer from work and without stopping day and night and without taking into account the time of rest or our family situation... In addition, there is confusion in setting decisions and laws that change in the last moments and that send us digitally to implement them, and unfortunately the victims are always teachers and students. .. Frankly, I feel that I am very tired, most of the teachers started showing symptoms of ZOOM FATIGUE due to working long hours on the Internet… I always ask myself and I am sure I am not the only one, but all the teachers with me ask the same questions… Where is my personal life? Where is my rest time??? Who will compensate me for the continuous hours of stress that I feel??? Unfortunately, there are no answers to these questions, and the situation will continue because of the extreme passivity with which we deal with events. There must be an end to this. We must not transgress the hours of rest and official holidays...Unfortunately in our country, people always come in the last, knowing that they must be come in the first...My sincere gratitude to everyone.

We have to distinguish period of professional and personal tasks.
There must be a digital code of ethics to be built and disseminated mainly in academic and research milieus.

I think your question is very interesting and I believe that there may be a compromise in respecting the work commitments and to be able to spend, from time to time, some period of well-deserved rest without too many "contacts" via mobile or PC. In roles of particular responsibility it is sometimes necessary to be able to be contactable .... time slots and type of contact or any other contact person who acts as a filter can possibly be defined.
In the past, I have used such methods and have not found myself wrong. Now, playing a different type of role, in a small "independent" work group it is much easier to plan and manage research and holidays directly with colleagues, alternating work and vacation phases, without stress due to multiple contacts.

Digital communication has many positive aspects for academics and researchers. However we have to manage our time in order to avoid stress and pressure. Health is the most precious thing we have.

Yes, I fully agree with you. During the vacation period, employees should be able to fully and realistically rest from work, and unfortunately this is not the case. On the other hand, the great technological advances that have been made in digital internet communication have made us accept such solutions from time to time. We also take a smartphone with us for a vacation to stay in touch with the world, we browse e-mails and reply to e-mails. Sometimes we also use other messengers, view our profiles on social media, etc. In my opinion, the problem is multifaceted and has two sides of the coin. On the one hand, we would like to fully rest during our holidays, we would like to forget about work for a while. On the other hand, we take a smartphone with us and check e-mail, various communication applications and internet portals.

Am in full line with Djénéba Traoré ; it is matter of respecting human health in the information age of incessant (24/7) digitization, but depends on ethical behavior.
Personally, my kids always ask me, dad, when do you finish work?
Even the university management gave us academic work on weekends.
Estimado Filipe, mi experiencia es como directivo de la Universidad Arturo Michelena en Venezuela y como docente, es cierto la virtualidad a desdibujado los horarios de trabajo y respeto al tiempo libre, pienso que se debe hacer un esfuerzo tanto de directivos, padres de los alumnos y los mismos alumnos para respetar los espacios libre, pero hay factores como ansiedad de que puede generar el no tener al otro el frente, el haberse borrado de nuestras estructuras mentales los horarios de trabajo y clases y la disponibilidad del medio para acceder al profesor o empelado en cualquier momento jalonan esta situación.

However, I believe that as we exercise the respect we have for others and what we hope for ourselves, it may be that cell phone can go on vacation with you.
However, I believe that the biggest problem is not during holidays but during weekends.

Yes, in a "perfect" world we should have vacations...but in practice it's not so easy. Sometimes it is the time for ending some undone works. I have very good relations with my colleagues from the Department and I accept such communication when it is necessery. I think in our academicians' work it is very difficult to draw a line between work and a free time:-)
I think the digital communication in the academic education case, is very practical and useful tool for the research and study purposes. However, it is absolutely not an alternative for the course studies or lab works.
The well-used digital route constitutes a space to develop science through the exchange of knowledge, turning enabled platforms into excellent repositories

Dr. Wiltgen: I try to send my formal communications within the office hours and most of my professional colleagues do the same. The problem mostly comes from communicating with youngsters and I call them digital human products. They want instant/super fast solution/answers to their problems/questions.Their e-communications are outside time frame and at times without their names!! I take it as difference of working cultures and generational gap! Thank you for bringing this topic in for discussions!
