Microlgae can be grown in a variety of ways, such as in photobioreactors and in raceway ponds. To estimate the energy consumption in algae cultivation, it is necessary to know heat and electricity consumption in the process and possibly the relationship between energy consumption and outside temperature.

As I see it, electricity consumption is likely to be rather constant, because pumping requirements are quite similar all year round. However, if cultivation conditions are wanted to be optimized and algae production maximized under all weather conditions, additional heating or cooling are necessary - especially in closed culture systems.

Do you know of any sources, rules of thumb or test data for heat or electricity consumption in microalgae cultivation? Your help is highly appreciated.
