I am modeling two volumes in ANSYS like matrix and reinforcement. I was informed to use contact manager like surface to node where target and contact surface are to be chosen. What is the purpose of using contact manager instead glue or merge option which is also available in ANSYS? The software should know that both volumes are mixed together and they are not separate units.
Thank you Avinash Parashar. I have understood the difference between Glue and Contact Manager but what about Merge how is this difference the other two?
You can switch off contact after a certain limit of displacement/penetration but tied/glue will always keep two surfaces connected. So, during simulation if you need the surfaces to be kept connected for all unforeseen forces acting on the bodies , glue is better but if you want to monitor for how long/what condition these bodies needs to be in connection use a contact. Of-course, the most important point to be considered is the presence of friction as explained by Avinash.
Glue is for [unmeshed] areas, volumes, lines.. Merge is for nodes in the mesh. Merge and Glue makes the two materials bonded perfectly, no slippage, no interfacial pressure, nothing in between but continuity. Contact is required if you want to study what happens on the interface discontinuity.
I haven seen the option named energy in ANSYS APDL in "loads" category. But i am not sure that it is about molecular interaction energy.
Currently, I'm modeling a experimental setup for testing the "nonlinear behavior of RC beam" in ANSYS APDL. In this model, i had used steel plates on top and bottom of concrete beam to apply load and support conditions respectively . I had used 'merge (nodes)' option to establish connection between the steel plate and concrete beam, also i had meshed in such a way that nodes of steel plate and conrete beam are coinciding.
But,when i tred to merge the nodes with command "nummrg,nodes", i'm getting an error as 'zero nodes are merged' and with out merging option , i'm getting rigid body motion. so, can anyone please suggest me a solution for this problem.
