I have done by both UG and PG in Biomedical Engineering. I would like to peruse my PhD in Medical image processing/Analysis with machine learning for prediction. My area of focus would be either cancer images or Neuro images. After completing PhD other than teaching what is the scope?Please help.
There are a lot of options, just depends on what you want to do. Of cause you can either proceed a career in the academia (eg, postdoc, assistent prof). Dependent on the country, teaching will not necessarily play a major role in your job.
Image processing, especially with deep and/or machine learning, is an extremely fast growing field. That is why, if you prefer to work in the industry, there will be a lot of options (eg, as developer, research and/or clinical scientist). Actually, current R&D development of all AI image processing applications if pushed by companies like Google AI, Facebook, etc. So if you prefer to continue working with the R&D, there will be more chances at the companies.
As a machine learning expert with medical image processing background, you can find jobs in biomed companies as a Research Engineer. And if you want to explore a different field, machine learning experience will be helpful in this “switching”.
