It's kind of interesting that current research of solar photochemistry is mostly focused in visible and ultra violate light while a large proportion of IR light is not considered. The nanosynthesis community have developed lots of structures with IR absorbance such as CuSx, anisotropic gold or silver nanoparticles. What is the major challenging here in using IR light for solar photochemistry? Thanks!
Theory: IR light doesn't have the energy (E=hv) for photoelectron detachment.
Current tech: CuInSe2 thin nanofilms have been designed for multiexiton absorption. The Quantum Efficiency of CIS decreases towards the read and is negligible near 1200 nm. The multiexiton absorption offer some promises compared to single excitation since nonlinear emission (fluorescence) is possible.
