I accidentally spilled some sterile milliQ water on my cells that were already in culture media. I immediately removed all the media and replaced it with fresh media.
In my case, sholud I be worried about the effect of this quick "addition of milliW H20 to the culture media on my cells? ....I'm worried.
Dear Sharon, Nothing will happen in your case if it is for few seconds. Generally with prolonged exposure to milliQ H2O cell may burst (Lysis because of hypotonicity). I accidentally washed my cells with sterilized water instead of PBS. But I removed it immediately after realizing the mistake. Added fresh media to the culture wells, and the cells were fine and grown well.
Since the cells were already in media and the exposure period is few seconds there is hopefully little or no effect.
