I need some clarification about what is difference and specification of Wistar Albino, Sprague Dawley and Long Evans in the general as well as neurobiology aspects.
How to differentiate wistar albino rats from Sprague Dawley rats?
There are many differences which I can't reproduce easily. I suggest you to read the book Animal Personalities edited by Claudio Carere and Dario Maestripieri. I thought it was chapter 15 which discusses different strains of rats and their physiological and behavioural differences.

HI, hugh hugh differences. yes read about the details. in brief; sprague d's are nice and easy to handle, good to use in experiments re pain, hormons, behavioral aspects, not to be used in stroke or ischemia. Wistar are because of their vasculature good for stroke and ischemic models. Long evans are very aggressive, not easy to use in pain or stroke models, more interesting for behavioral experiments etc.... in other words the selection of the strain is essential for the design of the experiment....good luck !
The major difference between Wistar rats and SD rats are as follows
Wistar Rats - Long ears, tail length shorter than body length and wider head.
Sprague Dawley Rats - Longer and Narrower head, tail longer than body (may equal to body length).
SD grows faster than Wistar rats (eg: SD rats gain 400 g BW by 12 weeks and Wistar rats gains~350 g BW).
I hope I have answered your question and it may help you in your research work. Only experience person can recognize the two different strains with in a fraction of second.
Another ilportant thing is: the three strains present also behavioral differences that you have to take into account depending on the task you are planing to use. For example sprague and albino don't have not a very good visual acuity compared to long evans; sprague have a nice ability to habituate to water deprivation schedules and are not stressed by + maze task... Also be careful, the three strains don't have the same the same strcture locations within the CNS so if you have to do some neurosurgery, you will have to check the coordinates with pilot groups.
Yes sir I got all answers. I want to know the difference in terms of Biochemical (like blood sugar, lipid profiles and so on), Hematological, serum and plasma chemistry and anatomical aspects between both strain. will you please clarify my doubts.
Concerning this point however, I really cant answer you. I know many microdialysis studies are based on wistar rats data but I nerver saw any differences in the literature between strains like sprague vs wistar or wistar vs long evans. I am not sure you will fiond aritcles evidencing differences in the level of neurochemicals in the CNS...
Sprague-Dawley rat is a hybrid albino strain with long narrow heads. Wistar rat is another hybrid albino strain. It has the distinct honor of being the first rat strain developed to serve as a model animal. Sprague-Dawley rat strain was derived from this strain. Sprague-Dawley rats typically have increased tail to body length ratio compared with Wistar rats. The book Animal Personalities edited by Claudio Carere and Dario Maestripieri it will be useful and very good
