I let you a YouTube video and the related paper of the synthesis process for GO, which is done in our research group, our method leads to good repeatability, good oxidation degree, very good dispersibility in water, high exfoliation degree for the produced GO powders. Also, the whole synthesis is achieved in about 4-5 hours until letting cold down the GO suspension.

For the HCl and DI water washing of produced GO powders by centrifugation it will depending on your equipment capabilities, but it can be done the next day of the GO synthesis.

I also recommend the new procedure of graphite oxide synthesis in the open article Improving safety and efficiency in graphene oxide production technology (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jmrt.2023.04.050). The process saves considerable amounts of chemicals, energy and time.

As described, the graphite : KMnO4 ratio of 1 : 2 is sufficient to obtain good-quality graphene oxide (C/O = 1.62). Higher amount of KMnO4 could lead to higher oxidation degree of graphite oxide and graphene oxide.
