Hello all! What is the difference between Vero and MARC 145 cell line? Several literature said they are both taken from monkey's kidney. I will use this for virus inoculation application...Thank you...
The Vero cell line is a workhorse of molecular biology, it was established in the early 1960s and is used in many contexts, including vaccine productions. See the Cellosaurus entry and the references and cross-references therein:

You will also see that the Vero cell line is distributed by many organisations (ATCC, CLS, ECACC, etc).
It should be noted (for comparison with MARC 145) that Vero orginates from a female Chlorocebus sabaeus (green monkey).
The MARC 145 cell line:

is a not so widely used derivative of the MA-104 cell line which was derived from grivet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops). To my knowldge it is not known if it is a male or female cell line.
MARC 145 is not widely distributed, but MA-104 is:

MA-104 seems to be used quite a lot for studies concerning various viruses infection.
Thank you for the answer. So Vero and MARC 145 were taken from same genus but different species of monkeys, right? Do you have some reference where can I get MARC 145 cell line, other than ATCC? Because it's quite hard to import the cells via ATCC to my country.
