Hi, I am trying to study the effect of swirl on Turbulence using CFD. 

My objective is to specify turbulence intensity at the inlet of the pipe and study the effect of swirl generators on Turbulence intensity. 

The issue I have is 

  • What should be the correct value of Turbulence intensity at the inlet of the pipe.
  • Suppose, if my flow is laminar at the inlet of the pipe, it gets turbulent while flowing through the pipe, which Turbulence model I should use. I am using SST (4 equation) but then I need to specify turbulence intensity at the inlet, and if I specify zero turbulence intensity at the inlet, solution does not converge.
  • Has anyone faced similar issue before where a laminar flow is transitioning from laminar to turbulence and needed appropriate boundary condition
