We know cholesterol is very important molecule in cells, but what's the range of cholesterol in whole cell lipids can keep cell's viability? For example, 20% of whole lipids cholesterol is the normal cholesterol level to keep the cell viability, can any treatment decrease cholesterol to 10% of whole lipid, which won't kill cells? While I can't answer your specific question, an important consideration which you may consider at some point is that at the subcellular level cholesterol can be enriched within specific microdomains, e.g. caveolae in vascular cells, rather than diffusely distributed. Therefore, absolute concentration is not the only consideration, but also where that cholesterol is.
