What is the best way of working with extremely busy co-authors in a manuscript?

In case authors are from same location, one may plan a discussion meeting and finalise the paper.

In case, Authors are at different locations, it is important to discuss online and take it forward.

All authors need to plan and allocate time for common research work.

You can overcome the problem by interacting with co-authors frankly and freely without any prejudice in mind.

Try to understand their situation. Be patient. Always try to create a “win win situation” for both parties.

To work perfectly with such fellows, never see them as too busy to work with, then you need to catch their attention by creating a kind of detraction and get them engage with what you need them for.

It depend on working & to taste of an individual who has with him the opportunity to work under extremely busy co author .When any individual selects his action to be associate with such author he fully aware that in his working time he has not to see the watch & such individual gets pleasure in working with such co author which indirectly help him to receive & experience which may in future part of his successive lifeline .

This is my personal opinion

Give him a very small job (explain a phenomenon, a graph, principle of function ...) when it finishes gives him another small non tiring work. It is a political method (takes then asks)

Your phrase "but for some important reasons, they have to be on the paper" shows that you depend on your co-authors, otherwise you would have published your manuscript long ago without their participation. If so, then this is actually a deal and this is your own choice of how to proceed. If these co-authors promise you some post or other preferences, then you must compare your work with their promises, otherwise you will reproach yourself later. However, in any case, it's sad, because random people will penetrate into science and will not have any relation to this sciense. We know a lot of such cases, but this question is not so much a science as a usual conjuncture.

Yes you are right. Sometimes, it is those with no connection what so ever to the science, at other times, it is those within the science but perhaps senior members of a research unit responsible for the overall project or still connected to the work but involved in to many other projects apart from the current one.

Those are the circumstances that become tricky

I choose Masters Students to go have meeting with them and note their points and then work on those points after discussing with me.... Later I can show then their recommendations....

But definitely It depends on the situation...

Sometimes its still not possible...

May be you can have a dinner together and discuss.....

Hard working is the best key for success in this situation.

Proper time management, discussion and proper planning about work can be helpful.

In my view, we have to consider the role of the co-author first, It is divided into to spectrum. Extreme important and nonextreme. Institutional heads, guide, statistician, and others who played important role in your research but you are illiterate in their field fo specialization these all fall under extreme important co-authors while in other you just consider them for the sake of gratitude then you can put their name in Acknowledgment.
