pH value of blood is between 7.35 - 7.45. Yet, it is generally practiced to use EDTA solutions of various concentrations (as per need) at a pH value of 8.0. If this relatively higher pH of 8.0 is okay for blood collection, what is the acceptable range of pH of EDTA solution (0.5M) for blood collection? Does this higher pH affect any blood cells and their morphology and counts?

EDTA is an organic acid and to be use as anticoagulant the required PH range should 4-6.
@ Antonio: Looks like the ICSH guidelines are for human samples. Are the ICSH guidelines applicable to mouse/rodent studies too?
@ Felix U Samuel: You are correct, but it is also mentioned in the document that EDTA can be maintained at pH of 8 and is frequently used at that pH as an anticoagulant.
I have not experiences on mouse/rodent blood. As far as the cellular morphology you might try to compare (after MGG stain) on blood smears directly performed (without EDTA) and after different timing in EDTA storage. As far as the CBC and differential count I don't know
