Stress is a body's method of reacting to a challenge/stimuli.It's an omnipresent part of life. A level of stress makes/force us to work and excel. High level of stress creates a burnout situation that has bad impact on our body, psychology, biological system, and frustration.
Stress has traditionally been measured by taking a patient's blood pressure. The higher the blood pressure, the greater the stress. Health complications related to stress include hypertension, which could lead to cardiac arrest.

Stress is a mental condition, when one can not seek the solution, whereas they (solutions) are available within his or her pocket. He/She is a person who closes their doors for next opportunities also.
In few cases it was also observed that stress has a positive impacts sometimes.
On this earth, there are many states of equilibria (plural of equilibrium). When a system, at equilibrium, is subjected to a stress or to an outside effect, the system will re-adjust by a certain shift to minimize or to counteract the stress so as to re-establish the same or another state of equilibrium. This is Le Chatelier's Principle which considers stress as an outside effect upsetting equilibrium.
Stress is doing your best for something you do not like. This "DOING" might me a physical or a mental conduct. Strong and skillful employees are those who convert Stress into Passion (regardless of the method).
Stress is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand. It can be caused by both good and bad experiences. When people feel stressed by something going on around them, their bodies react by releasing chemicals into the blood. These chemicals give people more energy and strength, which can be a good thing if their stress is caused by physical danger. But this can also be a bad thing, if their stress is in response to something emotional and there is no outlet for this extra energy and strength.
stress is a bodys reaction to the situation.it has both effects positive and negative.in this response mind and body goes biochemical changes.in severe reactions it can cause sympathetic activation.this is what science is, but if we train our mind to make the response positive way it helps in reducing the damage to our system.one can not change the situation around you but definitely can change our attitudes towards the situations.if positive its good.if negative it damages more.Acceptence of situation gives less stress.mind training and relaxation exercises, meditation helps to cool the mind and blunt the responses.thank you.its easy to quote, difficult to practice but its good to practice in life,it helpsin awareness.
It has both Internal & External Locus of controls contributing to stress.
People with higher Emotional Intelligence are also better at understanding their own psychological state, this can include managing stress effectively and being less likely to suffer from depression.
@Orringer, in addition; physiologically the "stressors" are mainly psychological and affect complex reactions.
They affect the hypothalamus----pituitary----ACTH------Cortisol which defined as the "stress hormone". Cortisol affects glucose metabloism, lipid metabloism and suppresses immune system as well as acts as permissive for adrenaline (i.e. increases the receptors of adrenaline). Therefore the stressed person can be judged from psychological, physical (blood pressure and pulse) and hormonal points of view.
Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. When you sense danger—whether it’s real or imagined—the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight-or-freeze” reaction, or the stress response (Smith et al, 2014)
The stress response is the body’s way of protecting you. When working properly, it helps you stay focused, energetic, and alert. In emergency situations, stress can save your life—giving you extra strength to defend yourself, for example, or spurring you to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident.
What is stress? I think that stress is characterized by what causes stress;

The stress response also helps you rise to meet challenges. Stress is what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work, sharpens your concentration when you’re attempting the game-winning free throw, or drives you to study for an exam when you'd rather be watching TV.
But beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, your mood, your productivity, your relationships, and your quality of life.
What is stress has been well covered by previous posts as well as the symptoms. I would posit that stress is natural and the key is in the coping, dealing, or lowering the stress one feels. Stress is a dealt with in many different ways with some being healthy and some unhealthy.
I would suggest however it is the choices people make under stress or caused by stress which is of most importance. In today's world stress is unavoidable and is almost like the air we breath. Stress surrounds us eating away at our mental and physical health until some snap, self medicate in various ways, and finally turn to the after work cocktail. Others turn to sex, drugs, or find doctors willing to give legal drugs. Still others turn to meditation, workouts, and prayer.
I would suggest the real issues here is not what is stress but has our modern way of life a cause undue stress? Secondly, if so then can we also state that modern life is therefore responsible for the care of those people who turn to or can only handle modern life by way of drugs, drinking, sex, or illegal drugs? Third, if true, stress is caused by our current way of life then what can be done to reduce the stress caused by modern life. Last, is the very nature of capitalism unhealthy for human beings.
Physiological or biological stress is an organism's response to a stressor such as an environmental condition or a stimulus. Stress is a body's method of reacting to a challenge. According to the stressful event, the body's way to respond to stress is by sympathetic nervous system activation which results in the fight-or-flight response. Because the body cannot keep this state for long periods of time, the parasympathetic system returns the body's physiological conditions to normal (homeostasis). In humans, stress typically describes a negative condition or a positive condition that can have an impact on a person's mental and physical well-being.
Learn to use the same set of skills at both office and home. Some concepts like making priority lists, pareto principle (80:20 rule), delegation of work, team spirit and maintaining a calendar, are required both at home and at work. After all household chores also require lots of strategy and skill development and definitely deserve recognition.
