I am trying to compare the gas-phase basicity of acetate vs histidine. Finding the gas phase basicity of histidine was fairly straightforward as it is shown on NIST chemistry webbook. However, the gas-phase basicity of acetate is not available. (See: https://webbook.nist.gov/cgi/cbook.cgi?ID=C71501&Mask=8)
How can I approach this problem?

By means of quantum chemistry you can obtain this data.
You can use Gaussian (www.gaussian.com) - the procedure for computation of properties in solution is almost automatized.

Thanks for your suggestion. How reasonable is it to compare the gas-phase protonation reaction given in the NIST to understand the gas-phase basicity?
