Type of support materials used for synthesis of electrocatalyst have found to affect the performance of electrocatalyst significantly for ethanol electrooxidation.
Till date, Vulcan XC-72 (R) is the most commonly used support material. However, it contains 30 % of micropores (less than 2 nm) of the total area, which may not be accessible by the reactants and, thus electrocatalyst nanoparticles deposited remain unutilized. So, researchers are motivated in the search of other carbonaceous and non-carbonaceous support materials.
So, suggest the best support material for synthesis of electrocatalysts for application in direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs).
