All we know is that when we increase the levels of a miRNA we expect a decrease of the protein and eventually the mRNA levels of its cognate target. But, what happens to the levels of a miRNA when its target increases or decreases?Does the cell react using the miRNA to control the mRNA levels in a opposite way?
Hello Paco, This is a interesting question also. I read some time ago that mRNA targets protect the microRNA against degradation. Them, if you over-express the mRNA this should be correlated with the increase of the microRNA and after that, the microRNA degradative activity should decrease the mRNA levels in a oscillatory fashion. That is, at less, that I have in my models, but I understand that some of the parameters are manually fitted.

Hello Paco, I perform in vivo experiments suppressing mRNA by RNA interference technique. In this samples I checked that when the mRNA is reduced, the microRNA (that we test that reulate this mRNA) also is downregulated. Looking at my results, It seems that the mRNA act as a protector of the miRNA. I hope that could be useful to you.

I'm sorry Paco, but this result is a little piece of a bigger set of experiments that I'm carring out, and probably it will not be finished until the beggining of next year. I don't know if there are another papers that has results in the same line as me. The aim of my research is an in vivo test of microRNA-mRNA regulation in development.
OK Jesus good luck !!!... I will be waiting for the paper... In the meantime I got some data in a cell model of aging that support also the same idea (co-variation of miRNAs and mRNAs).
