I am studying disseminated tumor cell biology in distant organs such as bone marrow. Impressive are two articles published recently "Human prostate cancer metastases target the hematopoietic stem cell niche to establish footholds in mouse bone marrow. J Clin Inv 2011) and "The perivascular niche regulates breast tumor dormancy. Nat Cell Biol 2013). Is the 'perivascular niche' is another name of 'hematopoietic stem cell niche' in bone marrow? If it is, then is it a common agreement that breast or prostate tumor cells migrate specifically toward the 'niche' and hibernate there? and is that a cancer stem cell niche then?
