We have formulated drug nanoparticles. interestingly, we have not found the complete release of the drugs, however, the drug release and drug left in release media is less than the amount of total drug added in release media. what could be the reason of this, any reports in literature. Thank you
There are many factors that you did not get the sum of 100% of the drug.
1- Some of the drug might be adsorbed inside the NPs and needs longer time for release.
2- Some of the drugs are not stable enough and a slight decomposion may take place.
3- Do not forget the experimental errors، such as the lack of good fiteration and .....
Systematic errors and incomplete quantification or degradation could be responsible.
Drug remaining trapped within or adorbed on the NPs would be the easiest bet. What charge NPs and drug have? Have they hydrophobic portions?
Another factor to consider is the drug absorption to the equipment used for the test (filters, membrane,etc.). What drug release test method did you use?
