What can be the reason as to why the same concentrations of FFAs and cells cause different steatosis percentage?

I work on mouse macrophage J774 cell line, we study the effect of polyphenol resveratrol on steatosis. We induce steatosis with free fatty acids. while looking for results through flow cytometry we almost always get different steatosis percentages compared to the control group, while always using the same concentration of cells and FFAs. what can be the reason?
