I am writing my Master Thesis right now and I am stuck with one issue. The issue is about the questionnaire that I have to send out. The demographics part in which I ask for: „Please indicate what ethnicity fits you best.“.

I suggested several things to my supervisor but I am already running out of time and she is still not agreeing on my choices and I would like to deliver good work.

Background: My research is a moderated mediation model (quantitative). It is basically about discrimination and prejudice based on ethnicity because my scale for assessing discrimination/prejudice is: The WPDI is a 15-item self-report measure of perceptions of racial prejudice/discrimination in the workplace defined as workers’ perceptions that colleagues or managers dislike them or treat them badly due to their race/ethnicity.

I told my supervisor that I want to include also central asian people in my study but NOT ONLY them! So I want to include Europe and Central Asia (Georgia, Turkey, Armenia, Russia etc.).

However she did not like any of my suggestions which were:

She says as long as I have a source that provides me with ethnicities that make sense for my study focus it is fine for her…

Can anyone help me out with this? Ethnicity is such a complex and important topic so I am very very careful with this.
