Essential Cell Biology: An introduction to the Molecular Biology of the Cell (Alberts, Bray, Johnson, Lewis, Raff, Roberts and Walker) is really well written and is excellent for beginners in molecular biology. The book also comes with a cd that contains movies of cool molecular biology events that you can incorporate into a presentation.

It is clear, concise yet lengthy enough to provide adequate details. Of course I would also have them read "The Double Helix" and at least one biography of Rosalind Franklin and look at Stent's Molecular Genetics, an introductory narrative book in parts; Horace Freeland Judson's "The Eighth Day of Creation" and no doubt a few chapters of "Phage and the Origins of Molecular Biology". But, the hyperlink is what I would use as the main text. All the others would be on reserve as Supplementals or for Supplementary reading. Good luck!
