Interesting topic. In Iraq, primary and secondary school teachers are either completed a bachelor's degree or from one of the teachers 'and teachers' training colleges. In other cases, they have completed their education in the basic education faculties, so that they are qualified to teach in these schools. I have mentioned in advance their university studies or in those specialized institutes and thus mastering the specialization required for teaching in such schools as math, language, science, sport, drawing or any other specialty.

Lo particular es que los promedios con los cuales ingresan a las universidades a los programas de formación de docentes (o de licenciaturas) son bajos.

Teachers enter training programs while they are in college. It varies from college to college, but in many cases teachers take up a major subject and only minor in education, so they have to be in good standing before entering the education portion. Whatever the admissions requirements for their particular college is actually their academic requirements, which vary from school to school. In many states teachers must also earn a Masters degree before they can become a fully licensed teacher. 

In New Zealand primary school teachers do a Bachelor's degree in either teaching or education. To gain entrance they simply need standard university entrance (which is a composite certification requiring completion of secondary schooling and basic literacy and numeracy requirements). Most programmes require applicants to pass an interview around their motivations for becoming a teacher; a police check; references of good character / experience and suitability for working with children. Some also require applicants to pass a basic literacy and numeracy assessment (other programmes require this as a component within the degree programme, rather than a prerequisite). These attributes in NZ are used to identify suitable candidates for teacher training - exceptional academic performance is not a requirement. NZ teachers are well-trained and NZ does fairly well on international assessments (certainly better than the US).

Primary school teachers are required to meet these requirements in my country.  It is necessary to have more than academic qualifications because we need people skills or soft skills and ICT skills in this era.

In Ontario, primary teachers must hold a baccalaureate degree in order to be eligible for entry into a teacher training program, which is offered as a baccalaureate or master's degree (depending on the university). These programs are accredited by the professional regulatory body (the Ontario College of Teachers) and the province via the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. Ontario centrally limits the enrolments for teacher certification programs annually, so some years admissions are very competitive.

In Brazil, to teach in initial grades of basic education, the person according the law  (law 9394/1996, the guidelines and basis' law of the national education) should, preferable, Study the university graduation in pedagogy, but a good number of teachers that study mastership in high school.

There isn't a test to verify the quality of the formations. At elementary school only  a teacher teaches all the subjects. It's a polyvalent teacher.

Hence they are selected to undergo a bachelor's degree in any one of Teacher Training Institutes (university status), and they either specialize as primary school teachers, or secondary school teachers. Until recently primary school teachers  enter a teacher training institute to get a Diploma in Education, not a Bachelor in Education.

In Colombia, we complete high school in 11th grade. Thus every single senior has to take a mandatory test called SABER 11 which is a comprehensive exam (math, science, language, foreign language, history, critical reading, citizenship). Some universities request for certain scores in SABER 11 to start a baccalaurate in teaching (5 years). Other universities have their own entrance tests (mostly public universities). However, most students who score low are entering the teaching profession. Also by the colombian law anyone who has a baccalaurate can teach (even if they do not hold a teaching degree). There is no need to hold a masters in order to teach, but it helps for teachers who work as public employees in public schools. They need to complete some requirements in training and years of experience to obtain a higher salary (if they become public employees before 2002) or  training, years of experience and evaluations (in they were enrolled after 2002)

Once you finish your baccalaurate, you must take a mandatory standardized test called SABER PRO, even in you are in a baccalaurate in teaching.

Around 2004 Malaysia government established a degree course for primary teacher in the Teacher Training Institutes which provides majority teacher in the public school and right now we are having great number of applications to enter the primary school course in Teacher Training Institutes. Usually we are having 100 000 applications but only about 1500 were selected. Although the advertised requirements seemed easy but the actual requirements in the selection processes are so difficult. They should have outstanding SPM's result (the most critical high school examination), pass the physical fitness test which is very hard and pass the psychometric test. Students and parents define teacher profession as a noble, stable and high paid job thus making the number of outstanding background's applicants increase and indirectly make the competition among candidate tougher each year. For me, I believe the candidates that entered primary teacher course are  well-rounded and have high quality but what  I concern the most is if the content of the degree courses they learn suitable with the current demand in school and society.

Individual states within Australia have differing requirements for entry into initial teacher training. I know this sounds odd but relates to a historical fact that states have control of Education. In Qld, to enter primary pre-service education students need an appropriate overall entry score (a score generated for all students completing Year 12) and also need a satisfactory achievement at a Year 12 level for Mathematics, Science and English.  Generally speaking other states have a similar overall level of achievement required but differ on the specific requirements of Mathematics and Science. Puedo comentarle que existe formación básica para egresados de nivel medios, ellos estudian en una escuela Normal. Una vez que egresan tienen convocatoria libre para cursar estudios universitarios.

La aspiración es que todos se gradúen como profesionales de nivel superior en un plazo de cuatro años siguientes.

En total serían ocho años de estudios magisteriales. Este plan de estudio es muy competente.

Los bachilleres pueden ingresar directamente a estudiar esta carrera en la Universidad.

Luego tienen un acompañamiento profesional continuado.

En nuestro proyecto trabajamos para retener y estimular la permanencia de los docentes en su profesión y de este modo ganar en mayor calidad de los claustros.

In Greece, to become a primary education teacher you have to pass national exams to enter a university department of primary education (school and preschool). There are many universities with such a department all over Greece. Studies last four years, including practice in schools.

In order to teach in secondary education (or in primary education in a specific subject like arts or informatics), you must have a university degree on this subject (e.g. to teach maths you must have a university degree on maths). Students usually attend a few courses related to teaching (mostly on methodology of teaching the specific subject). There is a conversation taking place these days about the pedagogical certificate as a requisite to teach in secondary education. There are issues about which of the university departments will give such a certificate after studies and exams, the length of studies, whether there will be tuition fees or not, whether it should be part of the initial studies (e.g. as an additional year), what happens with in-service permanent teachers , or all these adjunct teachers (many with ten or more years of service) that have not such qualification, etc.

In Nigeria, after completing Senior Secondary School (SSS) three and sat for the exam conducted by West African Examination Council (WAEC) and passed at minimum credit level (C6).

You can be admitted to National Certificate in Education(NCE) mainly to train students who want to be teachers at the primary and junior secondary school level.

Would not it be good if only the best students who finished high school were candidates to be teachers?

In my country, we have what we call Grade II certificate in education equivalent to O secondary school certification.

In the UK there are multiple pathways, each requiring different entry qualification. So at undergraduate level there are a certain number of A-Levels (or equivalent qualifications) which give a certain number of UCAS points. At postgraduate level there is a requirement for an undergraduate degree in a 'relevant subject' although different training providers require different levels of degree.

There are mandatory online numeracy and literacy tests which applicants must pass also. (In addition to having Grade C /Level 4 in Maths /English /Science).

In my country, at college level, to qualify a candidate must have obtained at least a 50% pass in at least 5 subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject. the qualification obtained at this level is a diploma. At undergraduate level, the same applies except that only English must be included. However, undergraduate candidature is more competitive. Postgraduate programmes (master's) require a minimum of a degree in the relevant field.
