We are analzying changes in miRNA expression as a result of virus infection using Nanostring. While I have a lot of interesting hits in my data, I do not know the best way to determine the biological relevance of these miRNAs in the context of infection without having knowledge about what mRNAs they are targeting/modulating. What is a good resource for learning about miRNA targets, whiether determined experimentally or theoretically?

There are many databases where you may look for information pertaining to your found hits.
One such database is mirBase.

Try that.
I‘m assuming that you already have annotated miRNA hits.

I probably should have mentioned that I have looked at mirbase for most of my analysis and, while it is a good starting point for information, many of the "predicted target" databases that it links to do not seem to have much consensus with one another as to the mRNAs targeted by the miRNAs. I was hoping that some one familiar with this type of research could give some recommendations.
I‘ve worked on miRNA data for a friend but her use case was different. We were looking for differential expression of miRNAs between control and patients.
I’ve not personally annotated novel miRNAs so I might not be the right person for this. what I’ll tell you will be a DuckDuckGo search result. But I hope you’ll get your answers here soon.
