Interesting question...However, the way forward is to keep looking for new economic models that would offer everybody a fair shot. People should also consider being adaptive and continue to acquire new skills and advanced knowledge so they can have this fair shot in a highly competitive job market.
Hand made industry is still very desirable, if we are unable to compete with technological development, we have to focus on what modern technology does not provide.
It means Man has to be more assertive and productive. It is true that machines are gradually taking over the work of man; however, AI is very primitive. A man thinking capabilities can not be overhauled by a machine.
An earth sharing economy has to be developed gradually by political reforms. All forms of economic rent have to be taxed and made public revenue. Land value should not be allowed to serve as banking collateral. A citizen's dividend (basic income) should be introduced. These would be the preconditions to maintain a capitalist welfare system; otherwise, economic systems evolution will select a more radical path.
Technological Invention has made our life easy, but these inventions are quickly eating up so many common man's jobs, what is way forward?
I think people in Europe during 18th & 19th century's industrial revolution might ask the similar question. But at the end they have to adapt their skillset & changed to the new jobs available during that time. I think the similar scenario might apply here - benefits of technological inventions are overwhelming & people might not forsake these inventions in order to maintain more jobs for people. Think only way is to adapt to change in order to survive.
You are psychologically on the right track. However, the current technological function is exponential and not geometric (cubic), like the industrialization process.
Current development model, which serves global market interests ahead of those of communities, is responsible of this situation. Yet another model of sustainable development, capable of reconciling economic growth and social cohesion by ensuring access to quality education for all and promoting lifelong learning opportunities, is possible.
That technological Invention has made our life easy, but these inventions are quickly eating up so many common man's jobs, is a very interesting and bothering question, judging from the number of unemployed youths in in the streetsy. One wonders if technological inventions do not have adverse effects on people.
But on second thought, it seems like many such new things, although inventions may advance at a very fast rate, humans have a way of catching up and turning the inventions to advantage, this is the way forward. They did in the past, they are able to catch up in the end, e.g., railways, cars, airplanes
I agree with most of the answers here, in that change is constant, so as newer technology is developed, so will there be a need for people to build and maintain these machines. Different industries will also be created, before President Clinton administration in the U.S., no one was talking about "green technology" but now there is an industry built on it. So, there are possibilities out there that we may not see yet. Also, technology is not impacting everywhere the same way. There are still many societies that are using notebook and pen for every transaction. I'm sure the digital age has hit them too, but in a different way, with different economic impacts. We could learn from those places, because they may figure it out before us.
According of of the Newton's laws of motion: "FOR EVERY ACTION(s), THERE IS EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION(s)"! This also apply to technological invention. So before starting any invention, all factors must be analyzed critically so to make the best decision of its overall benefit(s) or otherwise.
