The award goes to teachers who meet the criterion that they support student learning through:
Outstanding teaching efforts
Acknowledged interest in, and commitment to, educational development of teaching
Acknowledged pedagogical competence.
You should focus on this criterion when you nominate a teacher. Try to describe in your own words why you think your teacher meets the criterion and deserves the award. Bear in mind that nominations which are too short will not get past the first step in the selection procedure. The preferred amount of text is approximately 100 to 500 words. There is plenty of space for your text in the boxes in the nomination form. Just "scroll" down!
The criteria for evaluating teachers are multivarious and different academic institutions seem to use and rely on some rather than the others. However, I personally think that several criteria are required to give an objective picture of a particular teacher's professional status. The first and probably the most important criterion is teachers' attempts to attain intellectual growth and professional development Second, teachers should have their hands on action research which forms the basis of reflective teaching. Finally, teachers should know how to establish learner engagement and involvement by adopting a task based teaching whereby teacher/ student rapport , sharing and cooperation are quintessentially important.
Student evaluation for the quality of teaching is a the first criteria because university is about teaching before research. Now , since the budget of universities depend heavily on money from industries, the amount of money the professor gets from industries indicates the quality of his research activities.
The importance of honesty and honesty in work - Honesty in the covenant and promise - Accuracy and order - Transparency in speech and action, as well as justice in rating grades - Advanced experience in teaching - Present the lesson in a way that is interesting scientifically and technically - The abundance of scientific material - Serialization The ability to manage the classroom and the quality of the lecture - taking into consideration individual differences - making room for discussion and dialogue - verbal interaction in a sound language and interesting expression - the use of various methods in evaluating student work - not to depart from the topic of the lecture.
The most important criterion is his popularity with the students because of excellent lectures which students can remember for a long time even without going through the class notes. Example: Late Prof. A K Sharma of Ballygunge Science College, Calcutta.
1. It is interesting to note how a number of the contributors have stressed the issue of research or publications of the teacher. I think that university teachers are not to be recognised by their research per se but most importantly how their research inform their teaching.
2. In addition to the research-informed teaching of the lecturer, one must also consider punctuality of the teacher.
3. Again, another criterion should be how the teacher is able to inspire his students to apply knowledge to solve real life issues. To add to this, I think that a teacher is good if he/she is able to inspire their students to link theory to practice.
