What is the cost-effective solution to deal with gaseous emissions generated as a result of melting of plastic films or sheets in a plastic recycling process??
Volatile formation during recycling depends on a whole series of factors:
- material composition (e.g. if you have plasticized components, you will have more volatile or if you have less stable components, e.g. PVC you will have HCl formation)
- cleanliness of the waste mix (e.g. fat, oil, water, solvent, detergent etc. residues). It is not easy to remove such materials, unless you have a carefully selective waste collection system. Even residual water has to be removed if the waste is washed.
- much depends on the recycling method you are using. If it is materials recycling (non-degradative) then you are supposed to use closed venting system and the volatiles should be adsorbed or burnt.
