There are still places this beautiful. Looking at this will cause us to sense the sound of the clean clear water, and breathe in the fresh clean cool air.
We will raise our voices and sign petitions if these places are in danger!
Dear Miranda, we do have green places and National Parks, I prefer those in eastern Poland. Biebrza National Park is my favorite, Bialowieza National Park, and Narew National Park. Those are about 340 km east from Toruń.
I share some local beauty - Alces himself found in eastern Poland. We also have bisons in that part of Poland, but no lions and tigers.
Table Mountain. Kruger National Park and/or Robben Island are South African tourist attractions! They along many environmental landmarks deserve our protection!
Will do so through support prudent and sound environmental policies!
Environment Day is to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action. There are many places in each country that need care and protection.
I would like the holiest of rivers in India, the Ganges, to be cleaned and made dirt-proof. Most Indians treat this river as mother Ganges. Presently, untreated municipal sewage and industrial effluents flow into this river. Governments have been promising this for years but there is no progress at all. It requires about five billion dollar to complete this project. .
The new prime minister has promised that he would complete this mission by 2020. One just hopes that he succeeds in this.
@Beata, thanks. So we have bisons in Europe, America. In my country, we have tigers but not lions, unless it's at the zoos.
@Tobias, thanks for supporting environment causes. I know who to look for to get signatures.
@Prof Debi, yes, it's necessary to clean up the Ganga. Recently I reviewed an article concerning the increase in water temperature of the Lower Ganges.
Article Warming of Lower Gangetic Delta Water: An Alarming Trend
Prof Debi et al., the beautiful waterfall scene I placed earlier is Atharapilly waterfall in Kerala, where Lijo grew up. So you still have many beautiful natural spots to preserve. We will use Tobias wise and prudent methods.
The 2014 theme for World Environment Day - 'Small Islands and Climate Change', 'Raise Your Voice Not The Sea Level. Some important facts
• The sea-level rise is a threat to freshwater resources in small islands. Sea level rise is likely to reduce the thickness of the freshwater lens on atolls by as much as 29%.
• Many Pacific island nations are vulnerable to sea-level rise and some of which may cease to exist due to sea level rise. A one metre sea level rise would submerge Maldives and would force about 311,000 people to leave the Maldives
• The country Kiribati (an island in the central pacific) is now negotiating to buy land in Fiji to relocate and move islanders under threat from rising sea levels since the country is sinking. This would be the first climate-induced relocation of a country
• Some island nations such as Tuvalu, Kiribati and Vanuatu are at severe risk from sea level rise because they do not have enough land at higher elevations to support displaced coastal populations
• What we could/should do it: Support measures that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from all of our activities
Nature must be protected all over the earth against human greed; industrial pollution, archaic urbanization and archaic urban and waste management must be banished everywhere.
Human neglect, irresponsibility, greed are eternal. I try to support WWF and all the ecological initiatives. My favorite place on the Earth is lake Baikal in Buryatia, Eastern Siberia. Baikal is the deepest lake of our planet , the greatest reservoir of fresh water."Glorious sea, sacred Baikal, nice ship - omul barrel// Hey ,Barguzin, stir shaft// Fellow will swim not far from it."The most beautiful scenery.
After so much economic failure, I am convinced that all beautiful places must not be changed, since if it will be so, no clear benefit will be for humanity. So leave beauty as is, please!
Every place still undamaged must be a full conservation priority supported by a strong and cjear international commitment. Others can be recovered and there are many under this situation. While priorities are difficult to detail, I would point thefollowing: Antarcti sanctuary, Rainforests (both tropical and Holarctic), Coral reefs, Deep oceans, Alpine pristine ecosystems, Deserts mainly preserved áreas in the middle east and Arabian peninsula, Oceanic islands with their rich endemic communities, Interior waters especially the big lakes in N America, and of course Caspian Sea, Baikal and African rift lakes.
I teach crop protection ecology. My most important task is to train agricultural and crop protection specialists that saving the countryside, maintaining the ecosystem services, the life preserving commons: soil, water and air is our essential duty!
Control of population is a fundamental mean of preseving the environment, even though this may sound politically incorrect. The Earth is a small planet that can sustain only a finite number of people.
Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal in Agra, India. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".

It is facing problem of environmental degradation because of man and nature. This really needs effort to save it.
Dear Profs, thanks for your views. Yes, @Andras, Ljubomir , Hanno, Irina, Kamal, Nageswara, Ouyang et al., we will be active to raise our voices. When there is a need we will all contribute to remind our leaders of sustainable development. This is where technology in connecting us is serving a GREAT function.
I wish rice fields in the fields will not be converted to residential areas anymore. For the past decades, the conversion of these agricultural areas into residential and industrial areas has not just affected the environment, it has also reduced the food production capacity of our country.
Every human being should plant a tree and "take care after his /her own rose" (Exupery). My friends and my family try to grow trees and flowers ourselves.A human being should help our Mother Earth practically.
Being an active researcher I should not avoid certain responsibilities to keep our environment clean and safe.
1. All hazardous chemicals should be handled carefully with recommended safe handling procedures.
2. Radiation, chemical, biological hazardous wastes should be kept minimum and should be disposed following the standard operating protocol as set by the respective universities, institutes following the state or federal requirements.
3.Personal protective equipment should always be used while working in a lab.
4. In case of accidental release or spillage of hazardous items specific measures should be taken for a quick decontamination and repetitive confirmatory tests should be performed before declaring the place to be safe for future use.
Following those small steps everyday will keep us safe and by doing so we play important individual roles as responsible lab citizen.
I agree planting plants is our duty as well as our delight. I hope many of us think like that. I would like to propose you planting not only a single tree but to plant hedges consisting of native tree and shrub species in order to improve biodiversity and establish ecological shelters and corridors even at inhabited areas. I planted a hedge around our house and garden about 10 years ago. It is not only useful for the local ecosystem but also pleasant and isolates somehow our place from the dust and noise of the street.
I should like to show you the small village (700 residents at the moment) where I was born. It seems that there is no difference between the north of Hungary and the south of Italy.
@Profs Kamal, Andras, Amritlal et al., thanks for great posts and views.
One of my colleagues just got back from France. She was so impressed at the unspoilt beauty of the village, and the honesty of the people.
I asked why we have so much uncontrolled pollution here, with factories spouting black fumes into the air on Sunday afternoons, and why do we have so much crime here? And she said it's the presence of many foreigners who aren't employed. That isn't happening in your countries?
Hafiz's body was buried in Musalla Gardens, along the banks of Ruknabad river in Shiraz, which is now called Hafezieh.
was a very famous Persian poet. His collected works are regarded as a pinnacle of Persian literature and are to be found in the homes of most people in Iran, . His life and poems have been the subject of much analysis, commentary and interpretation, influencing post-fourteenth century Persian writing more than any other author.
The place most intriguing to me is Niagara Falls which I visited as a teenager. I do not have words to explain. Standing miles away, I felt the gentle droplets of water on my face from the massive spill of white sprays of water rushing and falling thunderously from the high cliffs. I do not know that we can stop changes. But I do know we can encourage our children to enjoy and value the earth and use everything, with the view of doing the least harm. At the very least, turn all electronics off, go camping, go biking, go for a walk in the woods. Go outside at night and really look at the sky. If we do more of this, we would all probably have lower blood pressure and an appreciation of what we have.
As we could see there are great places everywhere. I am sure there are still many habitable and enjoyable places around us until ... we take care of them. This should be our everyday task.
We should work on preservation of our countrysides! Yes, @András, it is one of the first objective! Rural tourism is the way for preservation! Here is an example: ..."With financial support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade, the project entitled “Fostering rural tourism for sustainable local economic development” is carried out by the Business Development Center Kragujevac in partnership with the local authorities in Kragujevac and the town’s tourist organisation...."!
I've many plants in the balcony, one is growing as a tree, if i have a garden 'even small one', surely that i do enjoyed many trees, plants and architecture decorative styles.
@Fairouz, thanks. Let's enjoy our tree planting. My college is 4 years old now. The trees have reached the windows of my lab on the first floor. Many beautiful flowers, some are very fragrant, fragrance fills the air.
Thanks for posting Fairouz. I just got a notification, and was surprised there were posts from others that I wasn't aware!
Dear Irina, the flower you attached is stunning; I love it. In fact, I do feel that nothing gives me more pleasure than looking at flora and fauna. I envy you. There is nothing much that can be done in this regard in a city of 18 million people, where I live.
@Prof Ljubomir, Iron Gates is so beautiful indeed. Let's preserve, care and share! I believe Vasile is from Romania, but he seems to be so busy these days. Do you miss him too?
Dear Miranda, people of Altay try to overcome consequences of terrible catastrophe. 1 human being is perished, 5 are lost, 60 places are in flooding. Medvedev promised 4 mlrd. rubles for restoration. Poor people! Time is required.
