I need answer as i have to present a topic on recent advances of Genetic engineering for the production of fruit/crops (bio-safety prospective).
1. Cisgenesis is defined as: "Cisgenesis is genetic modification to transfer beneficial alleles from crossable species into a recipient plant. The donor genes transferred by cisgenesis are the same as those used in traditional breeding." (see attachment)
2. However, there are many useful genes which are from different species, even from microbes. Some important commercial GM crops containing microbial genes. These include Bt corn and Bt cotton for insect resistance, etc. So, both cisgenesis and transgenesis breeding should be used.

Well in my opinion cisgenesis should be excluded from GM regulations as this is like conventional breeding by transfering genes from closely related species but what my point of view is that in transgensis we have a broad range of resistance genes insertion options,so will cisgenisi provide that much broad approach as compare to transgenesis?
