This is my first time using SDS-PAGE and the lab have unused BIORAD Mini Protean TGX precast gels that will expire mid next month. I'm thinking of preparing my own Tris/Glycine buffers instead of buying it.
I'm wondering if I can still get good and reproducible results if I do it this way.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't.

There´s in fact no reason why it shouldn´t work. The only thing you could keep in mind is that you use only higly pure chemicals and ultrapure water >18 megaohm) to prepare the buffers and work as dustfree as possible. That avoids contamination of the samples for example with keratines and other stuff.

I also agree with previous answers, you should not be worry to use manual buffer for the SDS-PAGE commercial gel, as long as you made the reagent buffer sterile with proper components and set up everything following general protocol of SDS-PAGE. Or, if you wanna make sure before doing your experiment, then maybe check all the information and related papers to your commercial gels. Good luck :)
