Good day! I'm currently doing m undergrad thesis and I used Ryff's theory as my framework. I would like to ask if having a comparative study on caregivers vs non caregivers would be better or would it be formal vs informal caregivers? Im also taking into consideration the homogeneity of the participants. Any more suggestions are very much welcome. Thank you!
Janna hi, both seems to be interesting; if you choose caregivers vs. noncaregivers you will be investigating about the effect of caregiving on wellbeing; if you choose formal vs informal caregivers you will be investigating about the effect of caregiver formality/closeness on wellbeing; as soon as the groups are larger than 30 homogeneity can be assumed

Janna, if occupations are similar it would be better, i think, for being able to make better discussion of your comparison; for example if human-related service occupations like teaching, health services, human resources et are together it would be ok; or if all people are from more mechanical or materialistic jobs it would be ok. Rather than a mixed group of myriad professions a homogenous group would yield more discussable and generalizable results.
Thank you! I just talked to my adviser and he said he doesn't want the caregivers vs non caregivers since the participants will not be homogeneous. With regards to informal vs formal, he said that informal caregivers have only specified number of hours. His main argument is that you should not compare apples and oranges. He recommended to have a comparative study based only on the dementia spectrum. Do you have any inputs about this? Thank you again!
