Dear all, Can anybody please explain this Abaqus error and how can i rectify it. The simulation ran for some time and gave this error, there were no warnings. "Process terminated by external request (SIGTERM or SIGINT received)." I am unable to find the reason behind this error. Thank you
Tufail Mabood, I also got the same trouble. But, when I checked, VPN was the trouble maker. Somehow, it got disconnected automatically, and the solver was exited, as suggested by Pedro José Silva Campos. I think the ABAQUS sends and receives packet information for a licence every now and then. Thus, for me, when the VPN is connected, it's working.

This error happens only when the option of 'kill' is used to end the iteration process is used.

When there is no enough space for the analysis to take place it occurs.

To answer the question in your title, SIGTERM is never sent automatically by the system. There are a few signals that are sent automatically like SIGHUP when a terminal goes away, SIGSEGV/SIGBUS/SIGILL when a process does things it shouldn't be doing, SIGPIPE when it writes to a broken pipe/socket, etc. And there are a few signals that are sent due to a key press in a terminal, mainly SIGINT for Ctrl+C, SIGQUIT for Ctrl+\ and SIGTSTP for Ctrl+Z, but SIGTERM is not one of those. If a process receives SIGTERM, some other process sent that signal.
SIGTERM is the signal that is typically used to administratively terminate a process.
That's not a signal that the kernel would send, but that's the signal a process would typically send to terminate (gracefully) another process.
That's the signal that is sent by default by the kill, pkill, killall, fuser -k... commands.
That's the signal that is sent to daemons to stop them (like upon a service some-service stop), or sent by init before shutdown (followed by SIGKILL for those processes that have not managed to terminate in time upon SIGTERM).
Note that SIGTERM is not the signal that is sent upon ^C. The signal sent upon ^C is SIGINT.

I am running out of my dessertation. I have done everything perfectly. The model include some reverse cyclic loading but unfortunatly this error comming again and again. I am so confused.
Hello! Have found some more sense in this question. As of the virus COVID-19, I am working from home using VPN. Whenever the VPN connection is lost, this precise error occurs. It is still odd since theoretically the simulation does not need (supposedly) any internet connection, it only fetches the simulation tokens it needs (x for the sim start and y per core or logic thread used in the sim) nothing more.
This is not, by any means, a solution but something that I realized was happening so maybe, if that is your case, see if the VPN is connected or if your network went down.
Pedro José Silva Campos No. I simulated with internet on. Then i simulated with internet off. Same thing happened. I studied somewhere that this is done by sending signals to ABAQUS like control plus c and control plus v, etc, but i dont think so that will be the reason too, sometime. I start simulation and then leave the laptop on charging mood with sleeping mode of. It happen when even i was not in the room. I disabled back processing of CPU also. Still nothing happened.

Before even using VPN it had never happened. I hope you can fix it soon! Good luck.

I have the same problem after I changed the mesh size to smaller? did anyone solve this problem?
Maria Alraggad Changing mesh size take with global seed size of 0.5 cause alot of computation cost. I tried with 1 upto 2.5. The reason i did so, is to reduce the computation time. There are 4 consective cycles in my model. I tried with mesh size of 0.5 but did not succeed. The thing is that, no one is sure about what is the actual reason causing this problem.

In my case, I need the VPN since the license server is at the campus. When I was eorking there I never used the VPN and it worked correctly. If you can, don't use VPN. I that is your only choice then we are in the same boat. Every 2 days a crash...
I'm also facing the same issue , never happened before. it was working fine for first 2-3 hours but later on it terminated with this error.
I resolved my issue. It was convergence issue with viscosity parameter in ABAQUS. What exactly is your problem about? Gaurav Chauhan
