I have a colleague who wants to run QC on a few RNA samples.
We have an unused RNA 6000 kit.
Unfortunately The chips and the associated reagents all went out of date 3 months ago.
Everything has been stored at the appropriate temperature,
and we have the and unopened RNA ladder has been stored at -20oC, but that too went out of date two months ago.
Will we still be able to use the kit and obtain reliable results?

Don't worry, it should work without a hitch. We used even two years old kits with success.
I have used correctly stored RNA 6000 Nano chips and reagents that were around a year out of date, and the qualitative results were perfect (later confirmed on an in-date kit). However, I have occasionally had issues with old or incorrectly stored ladder losing concentration over time, causing the concentration of samples to be overestimated. I suggest you run a water sample at least on the first chip (to check that the baseline is flat when no RNA is present), and check the concentration of your samples using a second method if your ladder is out of date.
