If nuclear batteries have successfully powered submarines for extended periods, why can't this technology be adapted for everyday use to benefit humanity? What are the potential challenges or hurdles that might prevent its widespread adoption?
What nucear submarines use is nuclear reactors, not batteries.
I guess that some very tiny nuclear battery might be used to drive ultra-small retromulating/retroreflective tags. We basically talking about a simple inetgrated circuit with some photodiode area covered by e.g. beta radioactive nikel layer, or some alpha emitter. That provides ~ 1 uA of current to drive oscillator modulating some MOSFET shorting some tiny antenna.
