sure, some journals have high rejection rates due to high submission rates.
and overall standards of science are becoming stricter
on the other hand, there are more and more journals out there that are looking for papers (I'm not talking about predatory journals, but serious journals, of cours)

Its not tougher, journals are more selective nowadays, they are interesting in quality not quantity, that is why the rejection rate is high.

This actually tries to strengthen our work especially when we resubmit our work after addressing reviewers' comments. Some reputed journal publish only high quality work. However, there are some predatory journal! be aware of that too.
Yes, I agree. The requirements and timeline to accept an article then to be reviewed, after that to be published within one year or sometimes more...
Publications getting rejected with sufficient justifications has to be accepted. Its due to lack of quality of the research and it cannot be attributed to other reasons.

It may depend on the levels of competition, area of research, experience of the researcher and a reviewer of the article, the publisher...
